In this event, ARES and VLIRUOS want to showcase how international cooperation can meaningfully connect with local-level realities through policy dialogue.
‘Inclusive policy dialogue’ refers to the political and coordination processes that structure interactions between local populations, public authorities, and international actors. It focuses on how the Belgian cooperation can better mobilise local expertise, avoid top‑down interventions, and strengthen multi‑level governance in fragile settings. Through engaging discussions and shared experiences, participants will examine practical approaches to bridging policy gaps, amplifying diverse voices, and co-creating solutions that are both globally informed and locally grounded. This event offers a unique opportunity to exchange insights, build partnerships, and advance inclusive, responsive policymaking across all levels.
The PSP dialogue day is a dialogue event organised by ARES and VLIRUOS designed to showcase the contributions of policy supporting programmes to the Belgian strategy for Global Public Goods. It serves as a space for exchange between the academic world, decision-makers and field actors to inform reflections for the upcoming 2027–2032 funding cycle.
Event Format & Hybrid Participation
Please note that the first part of the day, including the opening remarks, and interactive workshops, will be held exclusively in person in Brussels. We believe the interactive nature of the workshops is best experienced through face-to-face exchange to foster deep discussion. The final session, titled “Plenary Dialogue,” will be conducted in a hybrid format. Participants joining us remotely are invited to connect for this specific segment (starting at 15:55) to follow the workshop debriefs and the moderated panel discussion. Whether you join us for the full afternoon in person or tune in online for the concluding dialogue, registration is mandatory for both options.
Workshop Selection (In-Person Attendance)
For participants joining us in person, we kindly ask you to select a reference workshop when registering. Please note that the organizers reserve the right to rebalance the groups if necessary to ensure high-quality exchanges and optimal interactivity for all attendees. You will be able to choose from the following three thematic sessions:
- SPRING – Inclusive Growth & Social Protection:This session explores how local knowledge and practices can effectively support social protection policies.
- CLEAR – Community Involvement & Climate Resilience:This workshop focuses on avoiding top-down approaches in climate and conservation policy. It examines how abstract concepts can be translated into climate and conservation policies that center environmental and climate justice?
- REFRACT – Aid Localisation, Civic Space & Fragility Analysis: This session addresses how to mobilise local expertise for fragility monitoring and Humanitarian-Development-Peace governance? This contribution explores how local expertise can be better integrated into fragility monitoring and the governance of the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. Drawing on the Sahel and Eastern DRC, it focuses on localised coordination approaches and on the ways local actors navigate increasingly restricted civic spaces while continuing to shape responses from the ground.
