Summary

This collaborative project between Ghent University (Belgium) and HUTECH University (Vietnam) advances coastal protection technology through computational modelling of Wave-Energy-Harvesting Bio-inspired Breakwater Structures (WEH-BBS). Building upon our successful VLIRUOS TEAM project (namely VN2017TEA454A103) on BBS, this research proposal combines triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) modelling with mechanical-electro-magnetic metamaterial analysis of piezo- and flexo-electric materials. Using computational methods such as finite element analysis, machine learning and optimization techniques, the project aims to develop optimal designs for Wave Energy Converter (WEC) integration within TPMS-based breakwaters. Project activities include developing AI-driven design optimization frameworks, computational modelling of metamaterial properties, staff and student exchange programs, joint publications, and workshops to disseminate results.
