Summary
AISLE pioneers inclusive digital education for highly vulnerable visually impaired students in Ethiopia’s Tigray Region, addressing severe educational barriers with innovative, localized solutions. By integrating innovative AI tools and tactile learning aids, it empowers visually impaired (high proportion female) students and trains educators in adaptive strategies over two years. The project will be implemented in Tigray, Ethiopia, and partnering with Mekelle University, Tigray Education Bureau, Tigray Institute of Policy Studies (TIPS), and SENETHIOPIA a local NGO. The project emphasizes stakeholder engagement, and caregiver workshops to foster holistic support systems. Expected outcomes include improved literacy, equitable access & quality education, enhanced social inclusion & independence, and a scalable framework for national implementation. The project aligns with the UN agenda 2030 inclusive quality education, gender equality & reduced inequalities, EU Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027), the African Union’s Agenda 2063 & Ethiopia’s Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy.
