Summary

This project is aimed at improving academic and research capacity at Arsi University, Ethiopia for participatory testing and demonstration of simple eco-friendly postharvest solutions focusing on postharvest loss reduction of potatoes and tomatoes and capacity strengthening. The main beneficiaries will be women and youth which are small holder farmers, produce handlers and processors in the Arsi Zone districts of Tiyo and Dodota. It is anticipated that university staff and external stakeholders co-create knowledge and skills in improved postharvest practices that can be used to disseminate similar innovations to communities within and outside the study sites. The project aims to support the transition to food and nutrition security. It is in line with the long term development strategies of the national as well as local government and the needs of the stakeholders, and it contributes to Agenda 2030 and the SDGs 2, 4, 5, 9, 12 and 17.
