Summary
Xuan Thuy National Park (XTNP) in Vietnam, a UNESCO Ramsar site and a core biosphere reserve, is vital for biodiversity, coastal protection, and climate resilience. However, it faces pollution challenges due to upstream industrial and domestic wastewater discharge without treatment. Despite its ecological significance, comprehensive studies on pollutants in XTNP are lacking, while prior research highlights high metal levels in upstream Nhue-Day River.
This project aims to address these issues by conducting environmental assessments and enhancing local capacity building. It focuses on 1) training master and PhD students in advanced pollutant analysis techniques 2) analyzing metal pollution impacts on aquatic lifes and 3) engaging stakeholders to translate findings into policies. Goals include strengthening Vietnamese partners’ teaching and research capacities, developing innovative technologies, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring long-term ecological and societal benefits.
