Summary

This project pilots methane mitigation strategies in Vietnam’s beef sector, bridging research and practice to support climate-smart livestock production. It strengthens research capacity at Can Tho University (CTU) by optimizing in vitro methodologies, aligning with international standards, and enhancing stakeholder engagement. Collaboration with the Institute of Animal Sciences for Southern Vietnam and provincial Agricultural Extension Centers ensures knowledge transfer to farmers, including ethnic minorities and female livestock producers. Using Asparagopsis taxiformis, a red seaweed native to the Mekong Delta, the project explores innovative strategies for methane reduction. As the first VLIRUOS project of the local promoter, this initiative integrates research, training, and multi-stakeholder engagement, laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration, positioning CTU within global research networks, and fostering knowledge uptake by farmers, extension workers, and policymakers.
