Summary

This project addresses educational and agricultural challenges in DR Congo through an innovative service-learning (SL) approach in which UNIKIN’s agropastoral farm (FAPUK) is used as a learning hub to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical agricultural needs. We target both university students and low-educated farmers & women who receive significantly less educational opportunity. Through collaborations with local stakeholders (FIDA, SNV, SENASEM, AMM), the project develops sustainable knowledge transfer mechanisms that enhance practical skills, promote sustainable farming techniques, and cultivate entrepreneurial mindsets. Beyond this immediate impact, the project aims to institutionalize SL methodology across UNIKIN’s faculties while establishing lasting partnerships between academic institutions and local communities. This creates a scalable SL model for other universities in DRCongo, addressing both educational poverty and agricultural development needs.
