Summary

The Bicol River Basin in the Philippines faces frequent severe flooding due to extreme hydrologic events and due to its topography and expansive floodplains. Climate change accelerates these conditions, increasing the occurrence of severe weather events. Therefore, the main objective of the project is to establish climate resilient and sustainable flood management in the floodplains of the Bicol River Basin by advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and nature-based solutions. It will equip local governments and agencies with data-driven tools to improve flood risk assessment, enhance infrastructure planning, and implement effective mitigation strategies, promoting environmental sustainability by applying climate-proof flood infrastructure. The project emphasizes the participation of vulnerable groups in flood-prone areas to make interventions equitable and beneficial to those most affected by flooding, and to ensure shared ownership and collective action for flood management.
