Summary

This project addresses gender disparities in healthcare access in South Africa’s North West Province, where 83% of the population relies on public health services. Despite existing policies, women face systemic barriers, including financial constraints, restrictive social norms, and limited health literacy. Through a multi-stakeholder approach, the project will conduct a gender analysis, develop implementation strategies, and raise awareness to enhance women’s access to healthcare. Using participatory research methods and digital platforms, it will engage academia, government, industry, and communities to bridge the gap between policy and practice. The initiative aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), aiming to create sustainable, community-driven healthcare solutions. By integrating research, education, and policy advocacy, this project seeks to empower women, strengthen institutional capacity, and contribute to equitable healthcare access.
