Summary

Ethiopia’s Rift Valley water is contaminated with fluoride, affecting 8 million people and causing dental and skeletal fluorosis, tooth decay, skeletal abnormalities, and neurological issues. Despite various technologies, only a few are functional, necessitating a sustainable, low-cost solution.
The proposed project aims to address water quality issues in marginalized communities in Rift valley arid regions using a solar-powered membrane system for point-of-use fluoride removal. It aligns with Agenda 2030 principles and prioritizes Leave No One Behind (LNOB) by providing affordable, accessible, and sustainable solutions. The project involves governments, NGOs, private sector actors, and local communities, serving as a model for East Africa, where water scarcity and contamination are severe. This collaboration project aims to enhance public health, economic development, and gender equality in fluoride-affected Ethiopian arid regions by providing sustainable access to clean water.
