General objective

The overall objective is to build capacity, knowledge and tools for energy planning. More specifically, the stakeholders in this project do not guarantee to promote low-carbon energy technologies, but they do intend to provide the necessary tools for politicians to make better-informed decisions.

Summary

Today, around 273,000 Bolivian families have no access to electricity. This is due to their remote geographical location and the cost of setting up a centralised and decentralised electricity system.

To solve this problem, the Bolivian government has proposed an ambitious energy plan aimed at completing the country’s electricity integration by 2025. Rural populations will then have access to electricity, thanks to the construction of new infrastructures.

This project will propose tools, scenarios and strategies for energy deployment, in close collaboration with the main stakeholders. This work builds on two previous projects carried out by the partners, in which certain models have already been proposed to assist the country’s energy planning activities.

The beneficiaries of the results of this project will obviously include Bolivians who do not yet have access to electricity, national companies that will be working to set up the networks, and also two NGOs. One is working to introduce renewable energy in certain regions, while the other is assessing energy demand in rural areas.
