Summary

The project is a lifeline for women facing gender-based violence (GBV) in Ecuador, where femicide claims a woman’s life every 27 hours. This initiative aims to create innovative Safety Kits using advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Human-Computer Interactions (HCI). These kits will monitor emotional, physiological, and environmental signals, alerting women and authorities to danger before violence escalates. Universidad de Cuenca, in collaboration with KU Leuven and other dedicated partners, will take a transdisciplinary approach rooted in inclusivity, compassion, and innovation, directly addressing the needs of vulnerable women, and enabling them to take control of their safety. Addressing SDG 16 (Peace and Justice), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), the project will foster safer communities through technology, education, and human dignity. By empowering women with proactive tools, this project paves the way for a future free from fear.
